New charity partner announced by Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport has announced that the Great Western Air Ambulance will be the airports charity partner for 2019 following a vote by Bristol Airport staff. During 2018, staff and passengers raised approximately £20,000 for the local charity Children’s Hospice South West, based in North Somerset.

Initiatives through the year included volunteer collections in the terminal, raffles, cake sales, a Christmas jumper day and with Bristol Airport team members participating in the Bristol 10k and Santa on the Run event around the Harbourside, Bristol.  Since the charity partnership began a total of £200,000 has been raised for the local charity through staff and passenger donations.

Bristol Airport Spotting also raised in excess of £2000 for Childrens Hospice South West through the various aviation fairs and spotting days previously held within the Administration building at the airport.

Bristol Airport also supports annually the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal which in 2018 raised over £4,000 for the charity with generous donations by passengers and staff in the terminal.

Bristol Airport charity of the year flying high

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is delighted being Bristol Airport’s charity partner again for 2018. Each year Airport staff are asked to vote and support one charity and, for the fourth consecutive year, CHSW is the nominated charity of the year.

Last year alone the partnership raised over £25k and fundraising activities are continuing in 2018; the next activity arranged is on 28th July when eight Bristol Airport team members will walk 80k in just one day! A golf day is also arranged in September challenging business partners and suppliers to compete against the Bristol Airport team. Through aviation fairs and other events Bristol Airport Spotting has raised over £2000 for CHSW.

Bucket collections will continue throughout the year thanks to the charity’s fantastic volunteers. Many frequent flyers may recognise Denise and Garry Gooding who’ve been collecting at the Airport on behalf of CHSW for many years.

The couple catch 2 buses and travel 3 hours to Bristol Airport but despite the long journey, Denise looks forward to it each week. She said, “It’s lovely to chat to people who’ve travelled from all over the world, we meet people from all walks of life and even have regular givers who pass through the airport every week who will always greet us with a smile, come over for a chat and drop a couple of coins in our bucket.”
